The Friends of the Takoma Park Library has gifted us (and you) with a subscription to the Dear Reader online book clubs. A small five minute piece of a book is delivered to you via e-mail each day for a week. After a week you will have received one or two chapters which should be enough of a sample to determine whether or not you want to read the rest of the book or other books by that author. The next week another book starts. (The audio, science fiction and pre-publication books start every second week.) We won't own all the books, but when we don't, or our copies are checked out, you can probably find them at nearby libraries or local booksellers.
The books have been recommended by librarians and include some superb titles. We hope you discover some books that you would never have thought of reading.
You can choose as many of the following catagories as you wish: fiction; non-fiction; mystery; teen; romance; business; science fiction; audio; books that have not been published yet. Each one arrives as a separate daily e-mail.
Be sure to save at least one of the messages you get because they have your unsubscribe link. You may also need to whitelist dearreader.com if your spam filters are picky.
Unfortunately each e-mail segment also contains a chatty message from the Dear Reader staff, but if you find it objectionable you can just scroll down to the start of the book text. If you have already decided that you don't like a book, just delete the messages for the rest of the week. Don't feel guilty.
After you subscribe to a club, it may take a few days before the actual excerpts begin to arrive. You can ask for missing ones.
